New VP of Advanced Analytics and Machine Learning in Kongsberg Digital

With Michael Link onboard, Kongsberg Digital has strengthened its focus on machine learning and autonomous systems further.

Vice president of advanced analytics and machine learning is a new position within Kongsberg Digital, and the new VP will be in charge of everything related to digitalization, advanced analytics, and machine learning. Senior vice president and chief technology officer Christian Møller points out that Michael Link’s background is ideal for this position:

“Michael comes with a strong background in software development and a great understanding of the many challenges we face in building our digital ecosystem. He has already proven his excellence in building and leading multi-disciplinary teams, and I am confident he will have great success leading our efforts in the space of digitalization, advanced visualization, machine learning, and autonomous systems. We are very excited to have him onboard in Kongsberg Digital.”

Will be working on “a large realm of opportunities”

When asked about his reasons for joining Kongsberg Digital, Michael says: “The lines between the physical and digital worlds are becoming blurred, and Kongsberg Digital is well placed in the middle of this revolution. It is a shift that presents a large realm of opportunities that am I really excited to get the chance to work on.”
He continues: “The combination of digital and physical is an unwritten adventure, that is going to be a lot of fun to explore. I am really looking forward to working with and learning from the hundreds of very talented engineers at Kongsberg Digital.”

Technology, science, and engineering have been at the core of Michael’s career choices from day one. Almost twenty years ago, he graduated with distinction when he obtained his master’s degree in engineering of information systems from the University of Surrey. From there he went on to work for employers such as Telenor, Schibsted, and Opera Software.

Making Kongsberg Digital a leading center for machine learning and artificial intelligence

For the past three years, Michael has led the consumer business IT, hosting, and operational department at Opera Software as CIO. His team operated and developed the in-house cloud platform that runs Opera's products. “Giving hundreds of millions of people access to information and services that they otherwise would not have had has been very motivating.”

His background has prepared him for the opportunities and challenges he will be facing at Kongsberg Digital: “I've learned that it is important to focus efforts and resources onto objectives that are achievable, will strengthen our position, and that will create value for customers and users quickly. I'll be scouring Kongsberg Digital for different projects and experiments, trying to learn as quickly as possible what will be most valuable. Based on what we learn, I would like to convert these learnings into new features, products, and solutions. Choosing which technologies and projects to focus on will be key to making the most meaningful gains.”

Another of his activity areas will be related to attracting and hiring a talented team as well as building relationships with universities and research institutions.
Michael has set himself a clear goal at Kongsberg Digital: “My goal is to build Norway's leading center for machine learning and artificial intelligence.”
